Dr. Rhonda Marchant was born and raised in Long Beach, New York. She was 8 years old when her mother took her to a local animal shelter to rescue her first cat. This is when she knew that she wanted to become a veterinarian. In High School, she participated in an externship at a local veterinary hospital on Long Island, and after graduating from SUNY Delhi with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Information Systems Management she worked for a veterinarian hospital.
Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Marchant worked in the financial industry for 13 years in New York. In 2000, Dr. Marchant relocated to San Diego to pursue her passion for animals and medicine. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2004 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. In 2009, she graduated from Kansas State University with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Marchant believes the human-animal bond is sacred and it is necessary to take this bond into consideration when treating a pet. She knows this first hand by her connection with and care for her first childhood cat, Alley Cat. Knowing that many owners find it a struggle to take their cats to the hospital, she has started a mobile practice which provides at home care for cats, thus helping to maintain the human-animal bond.
She has an interest in preventative medicine, internal medicine, nutrition, and weight management. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and is a member of the Cat Friendly Advisory Council. She is also a member of the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association, California Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and part of the California Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps.
Dr. Marchant is on the Resource Development and Steering Committee for Operation HOPE - Vista, a cold weather shelter for families with children and single women. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, camping, rock climbing, yoga and hiking. She lives in Oceanside with her husband, her dog, Maddie, and her 3 cats: Dexter, Macy and Willow.
